Three games, three kinds of memory
- Digit span - digits flash one at a time; type them back. The sequence grows until you miss twice. This is the classic test of working memory: most adults hold around 7 digits.
- Visual memory - squares light up on a grid; tap the same squares. More squares appear each level.
- Word recall - study a list of words, then pick them out from a mix of old and new ones.
Your report shows your score for each memory type, the brain areas involved, and practical ways to train each one.
How good is a normal memory?
In 1956 the psychologist George Miller described the famous "magical number seven, plus or minus two" - the number of items most people can hold in mind at once. Later research suggests the true limit is closer to four "chunks" of information, which is why grouping (like phone numbers) helps so much.
